The town retains in its historical centre, called Borgo Terra, the heart of the medieval village and the typical features of Salento Baroque architecture. The fulcrum of the small centre is the central square, where the statue of St Michael Archangel dominates the centre and where the mother church dedicated to the patron saint stands.

SANTA MARIA DI LEUCA represents the extreme heel of Italy, where the Adriatic Sea and the Ionian Sea meet. The town was founded in the mid-1800s with its Arab villas, built by local nobles, and offers an important and well-equipped marina, where you can rent a boat, or visit the hundreds of caves scattered along the coast. From here, you can also set sail on a boat that can take you to the Greek islands of Phanò (Othoni) with its beautiful Calypso beach, and Corfu in two hours.
